Biography 
Alan English is an Associate Professor and Department of Education Chair at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in social studies education from Bethany College in 2006. While an undergraduate student at Bethany, English was named a Kansas Teacher of Promise.
English received his Masters in Liberal Studies with a concentration in history from Fort Hays State University in 2012 and his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University.
Before coming back to Bethany, English taught World and American history at Salina Central High School in Salina, KS. There he gained ten years of teaching experience before returning to Bethany. English’s research interests include neuromyths in education, student engagement, social studies methods, and after-school programs. He has recently been published in Learning: Research and Practice, Teacher Education Quarterly, Educational Considerations, The Advocate, and Prairie Journal of Educational Research. He is also currently serving as the president of the Association of Teacher Educators of Kansas.
English has been married to his wife, Britney, since 2009. She is a vocal music teacher at Smoky Valley High School in Lindsborg. They have two sons, Luke and Grant. Since returning to Lindsborg in 2018, English had become active within the community. He and his family are active members at Bethany Lutheran Church. English also sits on the board for Lindsborg Child Development Center and coaches youth football and wrestling.
