Required Training

Eligibility & Coverage:
Bethany College provides comprehensive health insurance coverage and benefits to employees who are hired to work full-time and work at least 30 hours per week during a 12-month measurement period, in accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and applicable federal and Kansas
state regulations.
Employees who enroll in the offered coverage can also enroll their eligible dependents, including:
- your legally married spouse,
- children under age 26 (natural, step, adopted, or for whom you have legal custody), and
- disabled children over age 26 (with required approval based on supporting documentation and verification of disability status prior to aging off the plan).

When Your Benefits Begin
At Bethany College, many of your benefits start right away!
Retirement plan participation, vacation time, and sick leave begin on your first day of employment.
Sun Life benefits (life insurance, supplemental insurance, AD&D, and long-term disability coverage) become effective 30 days from your date of
hire.
Health insurance coverage follows a specific enrollment schedule: your benefits begin on the first day of the month following the first day of the
month after your hire date. Here's how it works:
- Example 1: If you're hired on February 5th, your health insurance coverage starts on April 1st
- Example 2: If you're hired on August 1st, your health insurance coverage starts on September 1st
Paid Time Off & Vacation
General Time Off Information
- Generous vacation, sick leave, floating holidays for Facilities, and a personal day
- Paid time off for all major holidays
- Most weekends off
- Vacation accrual begins on the first day of full-time employment.
Exempt (Salaried) Employees Vacation
All full-time salaried employees will accrue vacation hours according to the following schedule:
- Hours per Month ~ 13.34 hours per month (20 days per year)
- Three-quarter-time exempt level employees (9- and 10-month salaried employees) do not receive paid vacation time.
Non-Exempt (Hourly) Employees Vacation
All full-time hourly employees will accrue vacation hours according to the following schedule:
- Hours per Month ~ 13.34 hours per month (20 days per year)
All three-quarter time hourly employees will accrue vacation hours according to the following schedule:
- Hours per Month ~ 7.5 hours per month (15 days per year)
Vacation Carry-Over
Vacation carry-over dates are based on the employee’s anniversary. Accrued but unused vacation time may be carried over from year to year.
- Year one: 40 hours
- Years 2-5: 80 hours
- Years 5+: 120 hours
Sick Time for All Full-Time Employees (including Faculty)
Bethany recognizes that the inability to work because of illness, injury, or the care of a loved one may cause economic hardship. For this reason,
Bethany provides paid sick days to its employees who are full-time.
Full-time employees can accrue a maximum of 144 hours (18 days) each fiscal year, and three-quarter-time employees can accrue a maximum of
108 hours (about 4 and a half days) each fiscal year. Sick days may be carried over from one calendar year to the next. Eligible employees may not,
however, accumulate more than the following schedule:
- Full-time employees, 480 hours (about 3 weeks) maximum
- Three-quarter-time employees, 360 hours (about 2 weeks) maximum
An employee may be granted sick leave for the following reasons:
- Illness or injury of the employee or member of his/her immediate family
- Medical or dental appointment of the employee or an employee’s immediate family
- Death in the immediate family (absence more than 5 days)
- Funeral attendance (after Bereavement Leave)
- Disabilities caused or contributed by pregnancy, miscarriage, abortion, or childbirth
Personal Day
- Each full-time employee is entitled to one 8-hour day paid personal time off each year based on the employee's anniversary date.
- Each three-quarter-time employee is entitled to 6 hours of paid personal time off each year based on the employee's anniversary date.
- The personal day is designed to be used when an employee needs a day off.

Bethany College recognizes the unique work schedules of Facilities employees and provides floating holidays to ensure they receive the same number of holidays as non-Facilities employees. Floating holidays are flexible leave days that can be taken with supervisor approval.
