BETHANY COLLEGE COMMENCEMENT SET FOR MAY 19, 2019

Bethany College will confer degrees upon more than 100 students on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Presser Hall Auditorium.
The ceremony honors summer, fall, interterm and spring graduates who have earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Music Education from the college during the 2018-2019 academic year. On Sunday, a baccalaureate worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Hall followed by commencement at 2 p.m.

Elizabeth Eaton, presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, elected to a six-year term in 2013, will preach at Baccalaureate. Bishop Eaton will also receive an honorary doctorate at commencement. Also receiving honorary doctorates are husband and wife, alumni, Ross ’71 and Karma (Jukes) Tidemann ’72. President William A. Jones will speak at commencement and Avery Holmes will speak on behalf of the senior class. Senior, Kaylin Powers will share special music.

Bethany’s class of 2019 includes 38 students from Kansas, as well as students from 13 different states and seven different countries.
Bethany College, established by Swedish Lutheran immigrants in 1881, is a college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bethany College is proud to announce the return of sideline cheer, launching with the 2025–26 academic year. Leading the program is newly appointed head coach Patricia Smith, an experienced educator and cheer coach. Sideline cheer will return to Bethany’s home football and basketball games.

Bethany College is pleased to announce the appointment of Audrey Saxton as the new Assistant Professor of English. Saxton earned both her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in English from Penn State University, where she taught courses in writing and composition, world literature, and pre-1800 literature.

Bethany College is pleased to announce the appointment of Megan Case as the new Assistant Professor of Religion. Case earned her doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 in Ancient Mediterranean Religions with a graduate portfolio in Women's and Gender Studies.
