BETHANY COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR THE FALL PRODUCTION OF SKINFLINT

September 2, 2022

LINDSBORG, KS., AUG.29, 2022 – Bethany College Department of Theatre announces auditions for the fall production of Skinflint, an original play by Majkin Holmquist ‘07. Auditions will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 7pm in Burnett Center on the Bethany College Campus.

Skinflint takes place “in a land destroyed by unfettered capitalism, rugged individualism, and toxic masculinity, where a person’s worth is literally a person’s worth,” according to the playwright. It is, she says, “a nihilistic fairy tale about surviving a world that values a person only for the coins in her pocket and the meat on her bones.”

The play features a cast of seven, four women, two men, and one character to be played by either a male or a female. Characters range in age from late teens to 50 years. The format for the audition will be cold readings from the script. Copies of the Skinflint script can be found at the Wallerstedt Library on the Bethany College Campus and can be checked out for a two-hour, in-library read. Auditionees are encouraged to read the script before auditioning.

Holmquist received a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Bethany College and a Master of Fine Arts in Playwriting from the Yale School of Drama, where she is an adjunct instructor in playwriting. She lives in New York City with her husband, Cody Whetstone ‘08.

Skinflint opens Friday, Oct. 28 and will be performed as a staged reading “in the round” on the Burnett stage.
