AI Center for Rural Initiatives will host a one-day summer institute to help Kansas educators employ artificial intelligence in the classroom, from foundational tools to advanced applications
LINDSBORG, Kan. April 7, 2026 — Bethany College’s AI Center for Rural Initiatives will host “AI Innovations: Empowering Kansas Classrooms” on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Bethany College campus.
This one-day summer institute aims to support educators, administrators, counselors, and school leaders in learning about and implementing artificial intelligence within educational environments. Participants will gain practical knowledge of AI fundamentals, explore ethical considerations surrounding AI in schools, and learn how to incorporate AI tools into classroom instruction and student support.
The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Mark McDonald, professor of biology at Bethany College, who will present “AI in Education: Opportunities, Ethical Considerations, & Challenges.” Following the keynote session, attendees will participate in hands-on afternoon workshops led by Bethany College Faculty AI Ambassadors.
“Artificial intelligence is rapidly shaping the future of education, and Bethany College is committed to helping educators lead that transformation with confidence,” said Dr. Laura Crawley. “This institute will provide practical tools, thoughtful discussion, and hands-on experiences that empower teachers and school leaders to use AI in ways that enhance learning while addressing important ethical considerations.”
Workshop tracks will be available for a variety of experience levels, including beginner, intermediate, and advanced users. Sessions will include “Introduction to AI Tools for Educators,” “Designing AI-Enhanced Lesson Plans,” and “Building AI Tools for Your Classroom.” A special session will also be offered for high school counselors.
The institute is open to K-12 educators, school administrators, high school counselors, and others committed to preparing students for an AI-enhanced future.
Registration is $119 per person through the early bird deadline of May 15, 2026. After May 15, the standard registration rate is $149 per person.
